Overview

Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital (NMCTH) is a major university hospital with 700 beds in Jorpati, Kathmandu, Nepal. It was established in 1997 by Late Dr. Sachey Kumar Pahari, stalwart in the field of medicine in Nepal and former Royal Physician. NMC provides medical care, education and also carries out scientific research. NMC also extends their healthcare via their satellite clinics and by conducting various medical camps.

Nepal Medical College (NMC) is situated at Attarkhel of Jorpati Village Development Committee, in Kathmandu, about 11 km. northeast of Kathmandu city. It lies at the foot hill of a mound. It has a quiet and tranquil environment, required of a medical college and a teaching hospital. The Gokarna hillock with pine trees, about half a kilometer away on the north, the Gokarna Safari Park across Bagmati river about one kilometer in the east, the terraces with trees encircling the NMC campus on the west, the NMC campus which comprises the college and Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital (NMCTH), has access to the main road through its main entrance on the southwest.

The NMC campus houses the academic buildings, library, female student and male student hostels and Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital (NMCTH). The college has departments of Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical pharmacology, Clinical Physiology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Human Anatomy, Medical Microbiology and Pathology that are required for the first two academic years of the MBBS curriculum. The departments of Anesthesiology, Dental, Dermatology, Emergency, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology and Surgery undertake teaching of medical students in their respective wards and out patients departments during the rest of the period of four and a half year MBBS program in addition to providing health care services to patients from their departments at NMCTH on all working days.

A full-fledged clinical health laboratory, radiology, operation theaters and casualty services, ICU, CCU, NICU, Haemodialysis service, ambulance service provide round the clock health care service. Echocardiography, Holter, TMT, Gastroendoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Ultrasonography and Pulmonary Function Test facilities are available on a regular basis. Specific investigations related to Biochemistry, Hematology, Microbiology and Pathology are available at the respective departments that are well manned and equipped for carrying out academic, research and health services.

Regular micro bus services plying on different routes and connect NMC with other parts of the city together with taxis which are available for the transport of patients to and from NMCTH from the early dawn to late at night.

Admission

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR Admission

To be considered eligible for selection to the MBBS program, a candidate: 

  1. Must have qualified 10+2, or equivalent qualifications, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) securing a minimum of 50% in each PCB subject (which, in general, equals to minimum ‘C’ grades for Sri Lankan A-Level and ‘D’ grades for International A Levels e.g. EDEXCEL/Cambridge) and also 50% in aggregate.

  2. Must have qualified Medical Entrance Test (MET) of Kathmandu University / Govt of Nepal and admission must be based on the merit of this entrance exam’s score.

2020 Batch MBBS Admissions - International Candidates (non-Nepalese nationals)

Annual Intake: The College admits approx. 100 students per year in the MBBS program, each year.

Application: International applications for the 34th Batch of the MBBS program, commencing in 2020, are open. Please apply online at www.careermarg.in at the earliest, within the last date of application submission specified at the college website. You would need to upload the following documents (in PDF/image format) while applying online: 

  1. Xth / O Level mark sheet (copy of the board issued mark sheet/transcript) 

  2. XIIth / A Level mark sheet (copy of the board issued mark sheet/transcript -  NOT the internet printouts) 

  3. Passport’s page showing name and nationality (Voter ID or Aadhar may be accepted provisionally for the Indian national candidates, however copy of the passport would need to be mandatorily submitted on admission) 

  4. NEET/SAT score sheet of the present academic year, if available

    Application Fee of

    Indian Rs One Thousand Five Hundred Only (for the Indian national applicants) or

    US$ One Hundred (for all other international applicants)

    must be either transferred online (using payment gateway) or wire transferred (via Telex/Swift/RTGS etc.), details of which are available at the online application portal.

    Please note that application form must be filled online and all listed documents must be uploaded. Application received via e-mail/courier will NOT be considered. 

    Processing of Application: Application is processed for completeness, adequacy and minimum eligibility requirements based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Incomplete application, lacking necessary certificates or payment of the application fee would be rejected forthwith without any further correspondence.

    Entrance Exam:  Kathmandu University / Govt of Nepal would conduct an offline Medical Entrance Test (MET) sometime in Aug/Sep and admission would be based on merit of the entrance exam score. Applicants are advised to prepare themselves and keep in touch with the NMCTH website for the entrance exam registration form, date and venue of the entrance exam etc.

    All international applicants of NMCTH would be assisted for entrance exam registrations and would be given a large no of sample questions and other materials.
