The participants were given a task to build a gravity dam, and test it against the force of water. They are provided with bricks, cement, fine and coarse aggregate to complete the task. The event is coveted by all branches of engineering as it not only tests how good one’s concepts of basic physics are, but also provides practical hands-on experience which is essential for learning and gaining new knowledge.
This year, 12 teams participated in Conkreation. In addition to building the dam, they were also asked questions by MIT professors as to how and why they chose to build their dam the way they did. After this, it was time to test these dams against the force of water, which is a necessary part of judging the competition and also to check how strong the dams were.
According to the result announced on Monday, Aakansha Anil Vishwakarma and Vaishnavi Iyer, first year civil engineering students of MIT (Manipal) emerged as winner. They won a cash prize too.
