ALLAHABAD: Following the large scale arson at Holland Hall hostel, (a trust hostel) after the announcement of results of Allahabad University student union on last Friday midnight, the hostel authorities have asked the inmates to vacate the hostel within next 24 hours. The deadline for vacating the rooms would be October 10 midnight.

The notice, signed by coordinator of the hostel, Ashok Masih, ‘all the inmates of William Holland Hall hostel are hereby informed that as per the decision of the hostel, district and university administration, they are required to vacate the hostel within 24 hours i.e. by October 10 midnight failing which they will be forcefully evicted’.

AU authorities maintained that after the incident of arson wherein around half a dozen rooms and couple of bikes was gutted to fire, there was an uneasy calm on the premises of the hostel.

“After the incident of arson, two groups of inmates are facing each other and in the backdrop of allegation and counter allegations, tension was mounting on the premises of the hostel thus vacating the entire hostel would diffuse the situation”, said dean student welfare of AU, Prof Harsh Kumar. He added that the rooms at the hostel would again be allotted after undertaking major repair work after around a fortnight.

The decision follows an inspection of the hostel in the presence of police officials, DSW, AU proctor Prof H S Upadhyay and student union office bearers.

“Every day, both the groups were telling us that the situation is alarming and if any untoward incident takes place, varsity authorities would be held responsible, thus we thought of vacating the entire hostel to diffuse the ongoing problem”, said AU proctor, said Prof Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, sources inform that the HRD ministry has taken a strong cognizance of the arson in the hostel and sought a detail report from the varsity administration in the incident. AU registrar has been asked to submit the report at an earliest.

Meanwhile, police on late Monday night lodged a crossed FIR against 17 students including newly elected AUSU president Uday Prakash and former president Avanish Yadav in connection with the holland hostel rooms arson incident. The case was lodged on the application of an inmate of Holland hostel.

Following the announcement of AUSU results, some rooms of Holland hall hostel were torched and a case against student leaders belonging to ABVP was lodged.

Inspector (Colonelganj) Satyendra Singh said after lodging the cross FIR, investigations are being carried out and action would be taken against the guilty.
